Sources in the US are claiming that The Department of Justice could try and claw back profits made by 888 in America - $120m (£59.5m). The returns may severly hamper the company's financial viability.
888 Holdings said that first-half trading for Y2007 was in line with expectations, adding that it was 'confident' about its prospects for the rest of the year. The Gibraltar-based company plans to announce its interim results on September 10.
The firm lost about half its sales in October when the US passed a law on Internet gambling, cutting the company off from its primary market. 888 saw results recover slightly after announcing earlier in the year that the growing popularity of online poker in the rest of the world had lifted net gaming revenues by 19 per cent to $47m in the first quarter.

Bwin, a company with online sportsbetting, casino and poker interests, is contemplating seeking 'hundreds of millions of euros' in compensation from several German federal states after holding the states’ gaming bans responsible for irreparable damage to Bwin’s business and reputation.
Chief Executive Norbert Teufelberger stated that he had complete faith that the European Court of Justice would deem the German states' attempts to guard their gaming monopoly illegal.
Speaking to Germany's Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper, Teufelberger said that Bwin backed a resolution to the drawn-out wrangle that would allow states to maintain full monopoly in the lottery sector, while regulated online gaming companies are given the opportunity to provide sports betting, casino games and poker services with a 15 percent tax on gross winnings offered in exchange for their new privilege.
